Little Dixie Library

Little Dixie has a room at Dierks Elementary that they made into a wonderful library.  This library is for Parents and Students and especially for Pre-Kindergarten Parents.  Even though reading isn’t one of the skills that we teach in Pre-Kindergarten many of the skills that we do teach lead up to the students learning to read.  It is important for students to be read to and to see adults read and enjoy reading.  The resource library has wonderful books such as “Bear Wants More” and “How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night.”  The library also has games, puzzles, books on CD’s and cassette.  Spending just 10 minutes reading a book to your student and talking about the pictures and what happened in the story will increase their reading development and increase their opportunities for success in the classroom.  Parents can check out 5 books at one time for up to two weeks.  After a parent checks out 20 books from the Little Dixie Library they will receive a new book to take home to keep.  The library also has four computers for parents to use during school hours.  Parents may want to write a resume, or look something up online that will help enhance their lives or their children’s lives.  There are many online games that work on reading and math skills.

There is always someone in the library to help you with whatever you need.  Natalie Pierce and Kristy Jordan will help you find books for you to read to your student.  They enjoy helping parents with anything educational.  If you need the computer just talk to them about what you need to do and they will be glad to help.  Dierks Elementary appreciates Little Dixie and Project Hope for providing this wonderful resource  to our families.  We want Parents to take advantage of this library.  If you have not seen it come to the Dierks Office, pick up a Visitor’s Pass and check out the library.  I would like to thank Natalie Pierce and Kristy Jordan for the work that they have done to help provide this library.
